System Louis Stabel & Zn.
The system, breeding, etc. and the start of the season.
The breeders and some of the better racing pigeons are coupled at the end of November. The other racers paired around January 15th. In an age of about 18-19 days, a part of the youngsters are places on the ground with the cocks and a part goes with the hens that were not flown to the youngsters loft. The racing hens go directly to their loft and this immediately begins preparing for the season. If the young are 25-28 days old, they go to the youngsters loft and then again start releasing the widowers. All the pigeons starts on widowhood the season. Whereby the cocks are paired after the 5th flight and come on eggs, and after 2 weeks they go on widowhood again. We do this because we cann’t finish the season with the widowers when they are on widowhood to long. The racing hens are not paired up again and continue until the autumn races on widowhood and will be paired in teams for the autumn races so also the last flight we have hens with a good position. On the autumns races also the hens of the widowers will be basket.
The old birds we bring ourselves before the season about five times away and then go on the first training flight. Only the long distance pigeons stay between two long distance races at home and we train them on 35 km in the weekend they are home. On the autumn races mainly hens are played alone and these are then also trained 2 or 3 times a week on maximum 35 km but usually at 25 km. When basketing the pigeons are shown and also upon returning home, the length of time varies depending on the expected flight and time in the season. Later in the season they stay longer together when they come home. The old birds are not darkened but are lightened from the longest day until 22:30. The widowers trains around the loft only in the evening and in may only in the morning. The hens train 1x a day in the evening.

We start training the youngsters when they are good flying around the loft. With the first round we start in April and the 2nd round usually in May. We bring them at least 15 times away to a distance of 35 km, in addition they also get some training flights with the club so they learn how to get out of a larger draft. After that we basket them as much as possible for the training flight with the department, so they can start the season with plenty of experience.
The youngsters are raced on the nest. Between flights we train them one or two times a week, we start with 1x weekly and later in the season 2 to 3 times a week (because they often sit on the nest and train less around the loft). All the youngsters race till the end of the season along so that they can be selected on performance (except non-darkness youngsters). But also the building of the pigeon is important to be allowed to remain.
There is regular with the youngsters something done by the headlines, we do this by feel. A cure against tricho is also every 3-4 weeks on the program as well WN-red on the day before basketing. A pigeon that is not 100% healthy cann’t perform well. Further, all birds (including breeders) just vaccinated annually against Paramixo and the youngsters get this vaccination preferably 2x. The juniors are seeded in their birth year against pox with the brush.
During the season we don’t take any risk on the health of the pigeons. In addition, a regular smoke tablet is used a couple of times during the racing season, the pigeons on Tuesday get sedochol in drinking water.
For feeding the pigeons, we have a basic food scheme we use during the season, this adjustment done by feel depending on the severity of the flight (s), weather etc. etc. The pigeons also receive regular “allerlei-mix ” and grit.
